Conservatives in Name Only – NYTimes.com

Here is something you won’t see me post often:  read this op-ed from the NYT.  It is brilliant and accurate.  While he notes that Populism is not necessarily a bad thing, I would go one step further and point out that the populist view is an important segment in the conservative movement.  It requires us to be introspective and honest about our positions.  It gives us a reality check that keeps us on course.

Why Are There No Lefties on Talk Radio?

Why Are There No Lefties on Talk Radio? – Emmett Tyrrell.

Actually, the “why” is quite easy.  Radio requires you to think.  Thinking is the enemy of the Progressive.  It requires a blind faith adherence based in emotion.  Raw emotion without Reason can only get you so far.  Contrast this with television, where ideas and thought invariably take second place to the imagery.  Imagery is very easy to manipulate to get the needed emotional response.  Hence the preference of Progressives in the visual media.

The know this and use it.

If you have any doubt?  Consider this; with the push for reestablishing the Fairness Doctrine for radio have you ever noticed there is never an effort to apply that same standard to television?

Botched environmental predictions for 2015 | Fox News

Botched environmental predictions for 2015 | Fox News.

And who is surprised by this???  Conservation is about taking care of our world and responsible husbandry of the resources with which God blesses us.

Environmentalism is about a social agenda.  Pure and simple.  Emotion trumps good science and facts cannot be allowed to get in the way of the agenda.

Thoughts On (not) Toy Guns

IMG_0105I had been planning to write about this concerning the recent events in Ohio, and then I ran across this story:  New York attorney general to retailers: stop selling guns that look real | Fox Business.  I decided this really can’t wait.  This will finish up a week heavy with gun advocacy news.IMG_0896

Here’s a little test.  Which of these young men shooting is using the real gun?  I’ll answer that at the end of this article.

Let me say – and this may surprise some people – I agree with the Attorney General.  In today’s world, Continue reading

More ‘Tolerance’ From Stalinist Universities #tcot

More ‘Tolerance’ From Stalinist Universities – David Limbaugh.

I’ve been following this for some days now and am planning to write on it, as well as make some links available.  In the meantime, David’s commentary on this gives you a quick primer on the issue.

If you want to know why a consider people who are a part of the political correctness movement a force of evil, this will give you a good idea.

U.S. Appeals Court Expands Gun Rights #tcot #2a

First, I do want to remind folks that The Conservative Lefty is not really a gun blog.  However, it does seem there has been a lot of Second Amendment news and action of late that has an impact on conservative causes.Jefferson on guns

Take this one, for example:

U.S. Appeals Court Expands Gun Rights – WSJ.

This is really, really big.  On a national level Continue reading

Families of Newtown shooting victims sue gunmaker, seller #tcot

Families of Newtown shooting victims sue gunmaker, seller | Fox News.

Wow.  Today is turning out to be a Second Amendment day here at Conservative Lefty.  It will be interesting to see if this suit is summarily dismissed.  The basis of the argument that AR-15 platform is military weapon is patently false.  There is a military variant that is not available to the public.  That’s very different.

Also the idea that it is unsuited for civilian use is extremely weak, at best.  The AR-15 is, by its design, intended for civilian use.  In fact, the lack of select fire makes the firearm unsuited for militery use.  The military version is the M16 and the more recent M4 variant.  This gun has been made for civilian use since 1963 and has become one of the most popular rifles in the free world.

Nothing Succeeds Like Liberal Secession: Blue America Without Red America Would Be A Basket Case – Kurt Schlichter – Page full

Nothing Succeeds Like Liberal Secession: Blue America Without Red America Would Be A Basket Case – Kurt Schlichter

This is a great little story.  It will probably remind a few of you of a story called Atlas Shrugged.  🙂  The freakiest thing is that this is something that is plausible in the next ten years.

It’s also a good hint at what I think is a possible outcome of an Article V convention.  The States are overwhelmingly red majority.  If such a convention were ever held, the result would be a hard lurch to the right.  DC insiders would be largely out of the loop.  End result?  The lefties walk.

Texas considers allowing open carry of handguns #2A

Texas considers allowing open carry of handguns | Fox News.

I’m in Illinois, but I really hope this gets through there.  If they can get open carry in Texas, with it’s long history, then maybe there is hope we can beat Chicago on this.

Media swoon: Elizabeth Warren, unlike Ted Cruz, hailed as a principled crusader #tcot

Media swoon: Elizabeth Warren, unlike Ted Cruz, hailed as a principled crusader | Fox News.

This is perhaps one of the best comparative case studies in media bias I’ve seen in a long time.  Both are strong, principled characters that I respect, though I often disagree with Warren.
