Peggy Noonan Gets It Better Than the Rest

picture031-e1415906197153-273x300I’ve always been on again off again on Peggy’s commentaries.  I suppose the good thing is that if I only read someone with whom I always agreed, it would get pretty boring.  Her WSJ editorial, however, should be required reading for anyone who wants to understand what is happening in the GOP primaries.

America Is So In Play

  • It’s not a matter of angry – She gets it.
  • Immigrant citizens hate illegal immigration – She gets it.
  • Republican leadership not in control – She gets it.
  • Trump goes way beyond Republicans – she gets it.

In fact the only spot where she’s a little off is in the “in play” concept.  That makes it sound like we’re buyers looking for a deal.  That’s not true any more.  We’re the employers giving bad employees the sack.  Or to borrow Trumps famous line, “You’re fired!”

Eric Cantor to endorse Jeb Bush

The former House majority leader will also be named a Virginia state co-chair of Bush’s presidential campaign.

Okay….

….right….

That’s sure going to win back the rank-and-file who’ve abandoned you.  Your campaign is over, you and the Leadership just have to realize it now.

Letter to a Friend: ‘Harsh Immigration’ Is Not Why Latinos Hate Republicans – Larry Elder – Page full

220px-Larry_ElderDear Larry: Geez, I cannot fathom the polls that have Donald Trump leading. Either a lot of Republicans are just frustrated or stupid, or both — and they want a bomb-thrower. Or it is pro-Hillary Clinton Democrats voting in those polls. Trump is ruining the race for the serious Republican candidates and thereby helping Hillary immensely.

My response:

Dear Larry,

I have to take issue with you on two fronts.

  1.  “Hispanics are leftists.  Period.”  No.  We.  Are.  Not.  My blog might be called www.conservativelefty.com, but it is because I’m left handed, not because I’m a Progressive.  (Well, it’s also a play to classical liberalism and its tie to modern conservatism, but too many seem to lack the education to get it…)  In your defense, you live in SoCal, so I can understand from where you are coming.  Having lived there 9 years, it was the only time in my 50-plus years that I was actually ashamed of my Mexican heritage.  What I saw goes against everything in my upbringing regarding honor, hard work and respect.  There are far more of us than anyone realizes.
  2. We conservatives are not angry, as so many opinion writers keep claiming.  We were angry back in 2012 when the Party crammed Romney down our throats.  Angry enough that enough voters walked away and chose to endure another four years of Obama.  That wasn’t me, but I did understand their position.  We were honked off royally in 2014, when a mere couple weeks after handing Republicans landmark victories the turned around with a betrayal of historic proportions.  Then the Party had the hubris to push Jeb Bush at us with the message that we don’t need the base.  We are not angry.  We are responding with the systematic dismantling of the political elite class.   The time for anger is long past.

How to solve San Francisco’s homeless pooping problem – SFGate

San Francisco is known for its Golden Gate Bridge, world class cuisine, panoply of cultures, striking skyline, frigid fog, and homeless. More specifically, aggressive panhandling and homeless defecating and urinating in public.  Now, there is a solution.

I think this says everything that needs to be said about Progressivism.

Well, no it doesn’t, but it sure is a good start.  And it gives a new meaning to telling Democrats to lay in their own bed…

Walmart and guns; Not a big deal

Walmart_exteriorFor some bizarre reason, this story has crept to national news:

Walmart to stop selling semi-automatic weapons

This isn’t a news story.  Nor is Walmart abandoning the AR platform.  It’s not the first time that I’ve seen Walmart not carrying any ARs except that one ridiculously overprice Colt that nobody will buy.  They are following the market as they always do.  Walmart has long bargained hard with suppliers and have no compunction to dropping even a national name product if they don’t get the price they want.  Remember the strong-arming of Coke some years ago?

A more detailed description was given by a Walmart manager over at The Truth About Guns.

Basically, Walmart overstocked at too high a price.  They’re stuck with inventory that is in the way of what is actually selling.  You can bet ARs will be back when Walmart sees a profit in them.  Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re back for the Christmas shopping season.

Trump migrant proposals could be ‘catastrophic’ to both U.S., Mexico | McClatchy DC

Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s calls to impound the money undocumented workers send home and to jack up fees for Mexicans crossing the border legally each day could prove harmful to the economies of both countries, Mexican experts said Monday.

Source: Trump migrant proposals could be ‘catastrophic’ to both U.S., Mexico | McClatchy DC

First of all, I resent most strongly the implication that everyone in the US of “Mexican heritage” is either a legal worker or an illegal immigrant. Yes, my grandfather might have had a little Mexican flag on a stick in a pot in the decorations of his home with other knick-knacks celebrating his ethnic culture. However, the flag that flew on his house, the flag that he loved and that his sons – including my father – served to defend was the American flag.

Second, the deportation, confiscation and ending anchor baby scam applies to India and China as well as Mexico. If Mexico isn’t a problem, as the former ambassador says, then such policies won’t have much, if any impact.

Third, if Mexico doesn’t like the idea of a fee to cross the border – and this seems the only Mexico targeted policy, IMHO – perhaps they should consider rescinding their own $20 gouge they impose on us if we want to leave their country. Why the double standard?

Finally, this is an excellent example of why language matters. Foreign guests who work here have to business or right to be called immigrants unless they are working to become citizens of this county. While that does not mean they give up their ethnic pride, it does mean they embrace and assimilate into the American philosophy and worldview. That what the Mexican Honorary Commission in my St. Louis suburb did. Just like the Poles. And the Germans. And the Armenians. And the Irish.  Do you see a pattern here?  Why bother coming here if all you are doing is bringing along what you are escaping?

To be an American citizen is a precious and – considering the world population – rare gift. It shouldn’t be devalued by abdicating the responsibilities that go with it.

The Arrogance of Power: Megyn Kelly’s ‘Good Journalism’ – Breitbart

Was Megyn Kelly’s performance “good journalism”? Here are her questions, evaluated one by one.

Source: The Arrogance of Power: Megyn Kelly’s ‘Good Journalism’ – Breitbart

This article does a good job of making my (repeated) point that Megyn wasn’t just after “The Donald.”  This so-called “debate” was all about a ratings grabbing, red meat event.  Actual political discourse was at the bottom of the planning guide.  I won’t say it was a bad thing.  The mainstream press is going to be much sleazier when it’s their turn and hopefully the candidates got to either put to bed or practice answers on the most annoying issues.

Donald Trump’s Six Stages Of Doom | FiveThirtyEight

trump-firedThe recent polling surge by Donald Trump has launched a thousand stories about Trump’s “unprecedented campaign.” But it’s nothing all that unusual: Similar surges occurred for almost every Republic…

Source: Donald Trump’s Six Stages Of Doom | FiveThirtyEight

At the moment, I’d agree with Mr. Silver that Trump won’t be the nominee. His division of Stages makes sense and I won’t argue that his “Party Decides” principle has largely held true in the past. However, I think that two critical factors are being overlooked by most people: Continue reading

Chicago police detained thousands of black Americans at interrogation facility | The Guardian

Source: Chicago police detained thousands of black Americans at interrogation facility | US news | The Guardian

If you want to know what Democrats really think of African Americans, this should tell you.  It really is beyond comprehension how they continue to vote for their oppressors.  Oppressors who’s approach is one of, “Don’t get uppity or we’ll ‘disappear’ you.”

Actually, in retrospect, it’s not that hard.  When you destroy the family, eliminate Dads and Husbands and replace them with Democrat bureaucrats this is the obvious result.  It’s much the same as why a woman might stay with an abuser.

It certainly explains why people are getting fed up with so many of our police departments.

From Fox News:  Court bars anti-abortion group from releasing new videos of Calif. company officials

As the blinders to what Progressivism really is come off, you start seeing more moves of desperation by evil people trying to keep their deeds out of the sunlight.  This is another one of those efforts that is doomed to backfire.

Silencing these reporters – even temporarily – is going to be seen in the public eye as an admission of guilt.  It tells one that there are more of these people and they are likely even more damning.  Whether or not true, that is the impression.  The scope of the ban is pretty narrow, as well.  It only stops Continue reading
