Right. No first of all, the administration response to the mess caused by Obama in Iraq is pathetic. Kerry’s “come together” call is right up there with Rodney King’s “Can’t we all just get along.”

However, you can also put part of this train-wreck squarely at the feet of Congress, as well.
Remember that while Obama may be the Commander-in-Chief, it is the Congress that has the power to make war. If it does so, then it is President’s responsibility to execute it. In fact, one could go so far as to say that Boehner’s accusation of the President “napping” is hypocritical. If there is something to be done militarily it is actually Boehner’s responsibility to initiate it, not Obama’s, according to Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution.
In regards to our military, there has been a steady decline of Congress in shouldering its responsibilities. This has been the case whether it is the initiation of military action, management of military resources or SOFA’s. You really should read Article 1, Section 8 if you haven’t. It’s short, clear and a real eye-opener. If you don’t really understand what “civilian control of the military” means, this will answer it for you.
